Privacy policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
LocalPDF is built so that your documents stay with you. This policy explains exactly what that means, and what information the website itself does collect, so you can decide for yourself.
Your files never leave your device
Every tool on LocalPDF (merging, splitting, compressing, converting, numbering, watermarking) runs inside your web browser, on your own computer or phone. Your PDFs and images are read from your device, processed in your browser's memory and saved back to your device when you click Download.
We do not have a server that receives, stores or looks at your files, and the app's code has no feature that sends file contents, file names or page text anywhere. Our automated tests check every tool for this. You can verify it yourself: open the tools with your internet connection switched off — they keep working.
- Files are held only in your browser's memory while you work, and are discarded when you close or reload the page.
- We cannot recover your files: we never had them.
Analytics
To understand which tools are useful and where they fail, we use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service. Umami does not use cookies, and it honours your browser's Do Not Track setting. It records the pages you visit, your browser type, country and referring website, and a small set of events. Event details are limited to fixed categories and ranges; they never include file names, file contents, page text or exact sizes.
- Files added: which tool, number of files as a range (1, 2–5, 6–20, 21+) and total size as a range (under 1 MB, 1–10 MB, 10–50 MB, 50–200 MB, over 200 MB)
- Job started: which tool and the option chosen (for example "recommended" compression, or a target size range such as "up to 200 KB")
- Job finished: which tool, how long it took as a range, and for compression how much smaller the file got as a range
- Job failed or cancelled: which tool and an error type (for example "password-protected")
- Download: which tool and whether it was a PDF, image or ZIP
- App installed, or opened from your computer's "Open with" menu
Advertising and cookies
LocalPDF is free because it shows ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see them and measure their performance. Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, UK and Switzerland), we ask for your consent through Google's certified consent tool before any personalised ads are shown, and you can change your choice at any time from the "Privacy settings" link in the footer. If you decline, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies only for things like frequency capping and fraud prevention.
LocalPDF never gives your files to ad, consent or analytics code. Be aware that, as on any website, those scripts run in your browser alongside the app.

Offline storage
So that the tools work offline and load quickly, your browser stores a copy of the website's own code, styles and fonts (a "service worker" cache). It contains no personal information and no files you processed. You can remove it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
Children
LocalPDF is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Questions about privacy can be sent to privacy@localpdf.example.
